Abrasive toothpaste linked to increased sensitivity

Children and Toothpaste

It is well know that fluoride is the most effective agent in the fight against tooth decay. The frequency and amount of fluoride your child receives is important for proper tooth development. Frequently, I am asked the cause of white spots on the permanent teeth of teenagers. It appears that one possible cause is over fluoridation during development. The most likely cause of the excess fluoride is from ingesting toothpaste.

Advertisements for toothpaste show the toothbrush loaded with toothpaste, using more than necessary for an adult. Since children are better at swallowing than expectorating, only the slightest amount of toothpaste should be placed on their brush.
