Sonic Toothbrushes Healthy gums can be only achieved by effective home maintenance between hygiene visits. To provide guidance to my patients in the selection of home care products, our office reviews dental consumer reports, and performs in-office evaluations of various products. Of all the mechanical toothbrushes on the market the new sonic brushes appear to be the most promising. The sonic waves are carried through the toothpaste into the space around the teeth. The wave action loosens bacteria, and food particles more effectively than the mere sudsing of the toothpaste. Patients that have used the brush find its size and shape well designed. Most of the new mechanical brushed are more effective that manual brushing, however, it still takes time to effectively clean all areas of the mouth. Each additional aid just makes better use of the same time spent brushing. John
