Managed Care What makes the practice of dentistry enjoyable for me is both the doctor-patient relationship, and striving for the highest quality in every procedure. Managed care, the way it presently exists, is building doctor insurance relationships and destroying the ability to do quality work. If you have an HMO dental plan or your employer is switching from a standard dental plan to an HMO, my suggestion is to find out what is contributed to your dental plan and ask for the payment as part of your salary. This will allow you to select the dentist of your choice and ultimately have better dental care. In the end, the smart consumer is not looking for the lowest price, but the best value. John
